Glacier mass loss has twofold effects on meltwater runoff: on one hand, with increased warming, meltwater production will intensify but on the other hand, glacier area reduction will reduce the meltwater yield in a catchment.
The project will evaluate the impact of climate change on glacier mass balance, volume and runoff, based on existing model set ups for Jostedalsbreen (Nigardsbreen). Results for the historic period can be compared to available measurements of glacier mass balance and discharge.
The work will be conducted in collaboration with NVE and HVL.
