The Department runs a permafrost observatory at Juvflye in the Galdhøpiggen area of Jotunheimen. This work includes several monitored permafrost boreholes and well-equipped climate stations in cooperation with the Norwegian Meteorological Institute (MET) and the Lom Mountain Center.
This summer, we have also installed Norway's first ERT (electrical resistivity tomography) monitoring station, which automatically measures two profiles per day and transmits the data to a server where it can be downloaded.
There are several MSc thesis topics available related to:
- Permafrost modeling
- ERT analysis
- INSAR analysis of permafrost degradation and displacement rates
- Visualization of the data for the public
This is done in cooperation with MET, the Lom Mountain Centre, and the Department of Geosciences. Please contact Bernd Etzelmüller for more information.
