Large scale weather patterns influence temperature, cloudiness and precipitation and therefore the surface energy balance and the mass balance of glaciers.
The project will be based on existing catalogue of weather types, operational measurements, the CARRA reanalysis and simulations of energy and mass balance of Svalbard glaciers, to identify key patterns responsible for extremes in mass balance and components.
