Effects of recent aerosol changes on precipitation in the Sahel region

Climate model simulations have indicated that enhanced emissions of aerosols from North America and Europe contributed to droughts in the Sahel in 1970-1980. Recently, there have been floods in the region while aerosols are now high in Asia.

The project will investigate, using the Norwegian Earth System model, if there might be a contribution from these changes to the enhanced rainfall in the Sahel.
