Welcome to AFSecurity at UiO.

Prof. Guillaume Hiet from CentraleSupélec and the University of Rennes gives a talk on approaches for enhancing host-based security. See the program below.

TIME: 28 November 2024, at 13:00h
PLACE: Kristen Nygaard's Hall, 5th floor, IFI, UiO

All interested are welcome. Coffee and snacks served.

AGENDA:
13:00h Welcome to AFSecurity at UiO
13:05h Invited talk

  • TITLE: Enhancing Host-Based Security: Leveraging Hardware and Compiler Techniques for Robust Protection (presentation PDF)
  • SPEAKER: Guillaume Hiet, CentraleSupélec Rennes, France
  • ABSTRACT: Despite significant advancements in research, software security remains a crucial concern, as vulnerabilities expose systems to sophisticated attacks. While network-level security is vital for protecting data in transit, host platform security is equally important, especially for devices not always connected to a network. However, host-based security solutions face two main challenges: they often consume system resources, impacting application performance, and they are installed on the systems they protect, making them vulnerable to attacks originating from these potentially compromised systems. In this talk, we will present solutions that use dedicated hardware features and compiler techniques to enhance the robustness and performance of host-based security. We will also explore formal methods to mitigate potential errors in designing and implementing these complex hardware/software security mechanisms and ensure high assurance.

14:00h Discussion.

BIO: Guillaume Hiet is full professor at CentraleSupélec in Rennes and heads the INRIA "SecUrity at the Software/Hardware Interface" (SUSHI) team. See the homepage of Guillaume Hiet.
