AFSecurity at UiO

Martijn Stam from Simula UiB gives a talk on why and how the global IT industry must migrate to post-quantum cryptography in the coming years. See the program below.

TIME: 27 October 2025, at 14:00h
PLACE: Kristen Nygaard's Hall, 5th floor, IFI, UiO

All interested are welcome. Coffee and snacks served.

AGENDA:
14:00h Welcome to AFSecurity at UiO
14:15h Invited talk

  • TITLE: The Migration to Post-Quantum Cryptography
  • SPEAKER: Martijn Stam, Chief Research Scientist, Simula UiB
  • ABSTRACT: You may have heard that quantum computers pose a threat to the cryptography we use today. The coming years will see a massive shift where old cryptography must be replaced by quantum-safe alternatives, and the time for businesses and organizations to act has now come.
In this seminar we will explain why migration to post-quantum cryptography has become necessary and urgent, and address the challenges associated with the migration, both from a practical user-oriented perspective as well as from that of an academic researcher.

15:00h Discussion.

BIO: Martijn Stam has researched post-quantum cryptography for over 25 years. He is well-known for the breadth of his cryptologic expertise, which ranges from why cryptography works in theory to the practical challenges of implementing it securely. He has served the International Association of Cryptologic Research (IACR) in a variety of roles, including as Secretary and as Program Chair. He is currently a Chief Research Scientist at Simula UiB, where he heads its Cryptography department.
