Operational Safety
- Due to the complexity of threading a serger properly, use of this machine requires training. For instruction, contact Sonen staff at ifi-sonen@ifi.uio.no.
- Do not move the machine during operation.
- Do not serge over pins. This can break or bend the needle.
- Always use the proper needle plate. The wrong plate can cause the needle to break.
- Do not push or pull fabric while serging. It may deflect the needle causing it to break.
- Ensure the needle you are using is undamaged.
- Make sure the needles are installed correctly.
- Verify that you are using the correct presser foot. When changing out the presser foot, manually check that the needle’s travel will clear the foot before using the foot pedal.
- Do not run thick fabrics or many layers of fabric through the serger.
- Do not thread or rethread the machine while it is powered on. Turn the machine off before doing so.
Standard Operating Procedure
- If not already threaded, thread the machine with your desired thread. Instructions are available inside the machine.
- Set appropriate settings for your material and desired result.
- Serge your thing.
- Turn off the machine and tidy up after you.
