Sonen Lab Guidelienes

The intention behind these guidelines is to maintain a pleasant and efficient lab environment.
We desire that everyone can use Sonen as a safe and clean workplace where the required equipment is easily available and easy to find.

Everyone with access to the makerspace has to uphold the rules.
Breach of these guidelines may result in expulsion and loss of access to Sonen.

Do not use our equipment if Sonen is unmanned

Do not use our equipment if neither a course leader, group teacher, supervisor, nor Sonen staff is present.
This rule is intended to maintain your safety. Some of our equipment may cause incapacitating and/or life-threatening injury. Some of our more dangerous and expensive equipment requires training before use. Breach of this rule will be considered illegal access and will be reported.

Exceptions to this rule may be made if you have shown that you are responsible and have the proper knowledge of all our equipment.

Do not use equipment you are not knowledgeable about

Some of our equipment may be deceptively dangerous and difficult to use. Thus, only use equipment you are competent to use in a safe manner.
Contact the lab supervisor or Sonen staff if you are in doubt.

Do not bring tools and equipment out of Sonen

All tools and equipment in Sonen is the property of Sonen and should remain in 3407. As tempting it might be to borrow equipment, people tend to forget to return them. Breach of this rule will be considered theft and will be reported.

Use the required safety equipment and take necessary precautions

Our equipment is replaceable; you are not.
There exists a standard operating procedure (SOP) for all our equipment.
The SOP includes an outline of the potential hazards and required safety equipment for using said equipment.
Use of safety equipment is mandatory. You must always adhere to the SOP.
If no SOP exists for the equipment, DO NOT USE IT!

Keep Sonen tidy

A job isn't finished until you have tidied up after you.

• Replace tools and equipment to their designated places.
• Do not leave stuff in the lab that wasn't there when you came.
  • Exceptions may be made per request.
• Dispose of trash.

Food and drinks

Eating and drinking is prohibited in the workspace. Food and drink may be contaminated by toxic particles and other substances.
Thus, drink may only be consumed in the sofa section.

Do not store food and drink in the labs

Food and drinks found in the lab will be disposed of without warning.
