LYNG by Ably Medical is an advanced no-touch monitoring solution designed to address these challenges. It enables continuous, non-invasive measurement of key health indicators, thereby reducing the administrative burden on caretakers and allowing them to focus on what matters most: patient care. LYNG collects a rich stream of motion sensor data from piezo-electric cables embedded in sensor mats, which with signal analysis and the novel field of ballistocardiography can be analyzed to estimate features such as heart rate, respiration rate, agitation, and patient position.
This master’s project will focus on how LYNG’s sensor data can be further developed into meaningful indicators of patient wellbeing. The student will have access to previously recorded data or gather their own dataset and will work with signal processing and data analysis techniques to explore novel applications. The exact research question will be defined in collaboration with the student, based on their academic background and research interests. Potential directions may include training a ML classifier for patient position, determining sleep quality of patients, or create intuitive representations of motion in bed. The student’s work has the possibility to become part of the product and be used in the real world to help solve real problems.
Ably Medical has offices in Oslo Science Park, right across the street from the Department of Informatics, and welcomes any curious students to get in touch for a visit and discussion.
