Affective Futures of Urban Nature

This project asks how design might help people experience urban nature differently, and whether this could contribute to stronger forms of attachment, attention and care.

The student would choose a specific urban site and explore its past and its present through conducting interviews, sensory exploration and participatory methods. Futures workshops would then explore: How could this place be experienced differently in the future? The project could produce a speculative design intervention (such as signage, visualization, digital communication, etc.) that explores alternative futures for the site. In short, this projects hopes to explore what kinds of human–nature relationships become possible through different ways of experiencing a place and how this can contribute to multi-species flourishing in an urban context.
