Hospitals are introducing more and more digital health tools, from wellness apps and screening tools to VR therapy and patient portals. Whether these tools succeed depends less on the technology itself and more on whether they fit into the lives of the people who use them. When designed poorly, they add work for clinicians and confusion for patients. When designed well, they strengthen people's agency, meaning their ability to understand, influence and take ownership of their own health.
This thesis project explores how we can make digital health work for patients, clinicians and caregivers (potential collaboration with Drammen Hospital).
Possible directions include:
Health promotion: Design a digital wellness intervention for hospital staff, e.g., a tool that encourages short recovery breaks during long shifts.
Disease prevention: Explore how a screening or health education tool can handle consent and cultural diversity in a respectful way.
Disease management and rehabilitation: Explore how we can design a patient portal or progress visualisation that helps patients with chronic conditions manage their health without feeling overwhelmed.
