Adjunct supervisors in Cybernetics and Autonomous Systems

In addition to the permanent staff, the cybernetics group has a number of adjunct staff in part-time positions, typically 20%. Most of them work full time at the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (FFI) at Kjeller, and each of them teaches one of our master’s courses. They supervise master’s theses, often on topics connected to their own research. If something below sounds interesting, send them an email and ask about available projects. You are also welcome to suggest your own idea.

Kim Mathiassen (TEK4030 Control of Manipulators and Mobile Robots)
Kim is a research manager at FFI, where he works on unmanned ground vehicles and autonomy for the Norwegian Armed Forces. He did his PhD in robotics at UiO, working on robot-assisted ultrasound and needle insertion. Contact him for topics in robot control, path planning and autonomous off-road vehicles.

Anders Rødningsby (TEK4040 Mathematical Modelling of Dynamic Systems)
Anders is a researcher at FFI working on navigation, with a focus on how satellite navigation is disrupted by jamming, spoofing and unintentional interference. His PhD was on multitarget tracking, and he has also worked on drone-based infrared inspection of solar power plants. Relevant for topics in navigation, GNSS robustness, target tracking and modelling of dynamic systems.

Kjetil Bergh Ånonsen (TEK4050 Stochastic Systems)
Kjetil is a navigation specialist at FFI and has worked for many years on the navigation system for the HUGIN autonomous underwater vehicles, including terrain-based navigation. He has also worked on indoor pedestrian navigation. Contact him for topics in Kalman filtering, sensor fusion, inertial navigation and navigation without GNSS.

Jonas Moen (TEK5010 Multi-Agent Systems)
Jonas is a scientist at FFI with a PhD in evolutionary computation from UiO. His research covers multi-agent systems, swarm intelligence and multi-objective optimisation, and he has also worked on drone-based inspection. Relevant for topics on drone swarms, cooperation between autonomous agents and game theory.

Trym Haavardsholm (TEK5030 Computer Vision)
Trym is a principal scientist at FFI working on computer vision for unmanned systems. His research includes visual SLAM, collaborative mapping for teams of unmanned systems, and compact multispectral cameras for small drones. Contact him for topics in visual navigation, 3D reconstruction and camera-based perception.

Thomas Opsahl (TEK5030 Computer Vision)
Thomas works at FFI with camera geometry and image processing, including georeferencing of airborne images and multispectral imaging. In TEK5030 he teaches much of the geometric foundation, such as camera models, calibration and multi-view geometry. Relevant for topics in camera calibration, pose estimation, 3D vision and airborne imaging.
