Robots for Humanitarian Demining

Landmines pose a significant threat to safety and development in many countries, often hindering access to farmland, schools, and healthcare. A lot of the work in humanitarian demining is still done by hand. In this project, you can work on both ground-based robots and flying drones that can contribute to humanitarian demining efforts.

This is a large area of research, and the project can be tailored to the background and interest of the student. It can involve building a physical robot suitable for demining, working on sensing different type of mines or unexploded ordinances, or how to plan and control a swarm of flying drones to cover an area given detection probabilities and requirements for clearance certainty.
