Group web site: Norsk Nukleært Forskningssenter
Brief description of the research group
One goal of our Nuclear physics research is to better understand how heavy elements are created in stars. We also do research on medical and energy applications of nuclear physics. We have an in-house accelerator where we perform experiments. The nuclear physics group consists at the moment of 13 master students, 20 PhD students, 4 postdocs, 6 permanent staff and 3 engineers and 7 adjunct professors. We are also part of the Norwegian Nuclear Research Centre, together with nuclear chemistry and radio pharmacy at UiO in addition to external partners NMBU and IFE.
Motivation for collaborating with an artist
After discussing with a couple of artists about the REAL ART program, we realized just what an amazing opportunity this is to bridge science and art - making complex scientific concepts accessible and engaging to the public.
Examples of activities that the artist can participate in
The artist will be welcome to participate in experiments and other group activities like seminars and outreach activities, in addition to social activities.
We are also working on educational material for high school physics, where we imagine a collaboration with an artist will be very fruitful.
Work space / time period:
Depending on the needs of the artist we will find a solution. We can offer a regular office space and/or a workspace in the lab if the artist need more space to work.
We are flexible, most times works well for us (except July)
