ASTRO splits: two teams at the Holmenkollen relay 2019

Each year the Institute of Theoretical Astrophysics (ITA) took part to the well known and challenging Holmenkollen relay "as one". Until now.

In November 2017 the Rosseland Center for Solar Physics was established and hence its running team "UiO RoCS" began to train for the famous Holmenkollen relay. For last year's exordium, the “UiO RoCS” team cut the finish line with a time of 1:20:54. Although the new name, some of the members of the actual team had previously run under the name "UiO SolarStorms". Back the relay in 2013, they reached the 749th place within the class "A1 companies - mostly men", with a time of 1:20:14.

Since then, the number of members of both RoCS and the cosmology group at ITA has increased. The time has come to take part to the relay with a second team: the "UiO Astrorunners". Composed by cosmologists, IT and administrative staff, the debut of the Astrorunners has been quite successful! They cut the finish line 1:16:11, five minutes faster than the "UiO RoCS" team (1:21:16), and so placing at the 491th place in the same category.

Despite the results, everyone met for pizza and drinks afterwards. At the Institute we are proud of the efforts and achievements of this year's Holmenkollen relay, and we wish that many more will join the next year!
