Weathering processes of key elements to surface waters

Long term sequestration of CO2, as well as the release of inorganic carbon compounds and key elements for biological production such and phosphorus, silicate, calcium and iron, are all related to weathering processes.

The key topic of this research is modelling and prediction of such weathering processes, and to understand the interactions with microbial redox-processes. These are important feedback processes in the climate cycle, both in terms of sequestration of inorganic C and by releasing key elements that support biological C-fixation.

The group is based at geology, but also interacts with research in chemistry, hydrology and biosciences.
