Sediments on the conjugate Australian Antarctic margins have been deposited through the interplay between continental sediment supply (strongly influenced by climate), tectonic motions and ocean circulation. These underwent drastic changes during the global climate transition from Greenhouse to Icehouse (~90 to 34 Ma). We are able to learn about these changes by unraveling the sedimentary evolution of the Australian-Antarctic Basin, using a comprehensive network of multichannel seismic reflection data, combined with geological constraints from drill sites.
