MARmaED Early Stage Researcher from Greece has started working at the CNRM, Météo France. on 15 Februar 2016.
Sofia Darmaraki made her PhD at CNRM, Météo France.
My background is in physics in which I completed my undergraduate degree, choosing the direction of physical oceanography in Ocean Physics and Modelling Group Research laboratory, at National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. As I am particularly interested in the ocean and the extreme climate events, I also investigated extreme snow events in the Mediterranean sea level and their linkages with the large-scale atmospheric circulation during my MSc degree in Oceanography and Climate in National Oceanography Center, Southampton. Within MARmaED I focus primarily on assessing the sources of uncertainty in the future projections of extreme thermal events (marine heat waves) in the Mediterranean Sea. Using a multi-model framework under different greenhouse gas emission scenarios I aim to understand the underlying mechanisms behind these events, offering key information to marine ecosystems and related fisheries that will be greatly affected by them.
I will conduct my PhD thesis in Centre National de Recherche Météorologique, Meteo France with Dr.Samuel Somot et Dr.Michel Deque as my supervisors.
