Here are her thoughts about her new role:

Hi everyone!

My name is Franziska, and I'm thrilled to introduce myself as your new student council lead at the NORA research school.

I'm currently in my third year as a PhD student at the Department of Physics at the University of Oslo. My project is about using deep learning models on biological data, especially microscopy images, to predict the outcomes of experiments where human cells change their identity. This research is particularly important to me as it ties back to my roots in biology and aims to help scientists focus their efforts on the most promising cells.

My professional journey so far has been anything but linear. I started with a MSc in Biology from the University of Konstanz in Germany, moved on to a MSc in Computational Biomedicine in Denmark, and then joined industry via Novo Nordisk's Research & Development Graduate Program. It was my manager at Novo Nordisk who inspired me to dive back into academia and pursue a PhD that bridges biomedicine and computer science.

After two enriching years as a PhD student in Norway, I'm excited to take on this new role as your student council lead. My goal is to use my experience to foster a vibrant and supportive research community here at NORA. I aim to:

  • Create a platform for collaboration and build a strong sense of community where we help each other thrive
  • Enable communication and collaboration across Norwegian universities
  • Facilitate the sharing of ideas and insights through workshops and webinars

As an international student myself, I understand the challenges of forming lasting academic and professional networks. I hope to make it easier for all of us to connect, share our knowledge, and support each other's growth both socially and professionally.

Looking forward to working with all of you!

Best, Franziska
