All laboratories must be labelled with the name of the room manager and the head of the unit. Emergency information must also be provided, including the building number, room number and address.
Signs must also include information about:
- hazards present in the laboratory (yellow triangle)
- mandatory requirements (blue circle)
- prohibitions (red circle)
- the containment level for any biological agents
- whether the laboratory is a controlled area for work involving radioactivity
The choice of signage must be based on the laboratory’s risk assessment.
If gas cylinders are kept in the laboratory, the signage must include hazard signs for gas under pressure and, where applicable, flammable gas.
The laboratory signage template must be completed and can be downloaded as a PDF from the Graphic Centre – Design Machine – Signs & Banners.
