Why appoint a new vice-dean at MN now?

Team Hennum won the rector election at the University of Oslo in April. Bjørn Jamtveit, the faculty’s elected vice-dean, was a candidate for pro-rector on the winning team and will step down as vice-dean at MN on August 1, 2025, when he assumes his new role as pro-rector for the university.

Bjørn Jamtveit is currently the elected vice-dean at MN for the period from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2028. Consequently, the faculty needs to appoint a new vice-dean for the remainder of the period.

Earlier this year, the faculty board established a new procedure for instances where the elected vice-dean steps down. In such cases, the board will appoint a vice-dean for the remainder of the current dean period based on a proposal from the dean.

Based on a proposal from Dean Solveig Kristensen, the faculty board decided to appoint Knut Mørken as the new vice-dean starting August 1. Mørken will continue his responsibilities for education.

The dean is currently working on appointing a new research dean at the faculty.
