Øystein Prytz is a professor of physics and the center leader at the Center for Materials Science and Nanotechnology. He researches the electron structure and chemical bonding of materials at the nanometer level, as a basis for developing new, nanostructured materials with specific functional properties.

Øystein has a strong experimental background and has led the Oslo node of the national infrastructure NORTEM - The Norwegian Centre for Transmission Electron Microscopy for many years. The faculty's work with research infrastructure is extremely important, and I am confident that with Øystein, we will have the professional leadership competence we need in this area.

Øystein will assume the position of Vice Dean for Research when Bjørn Jamtveit begins his work as the university's new Pro-Rector. The faculty's Vice Dean for Education, Knut Mørken, has been appointed by the faculty board as the faculty's deputy leader from August 1st.

I warmly welcome Øystein Prytz as the Dean of Research at the faculty!
