About WEEK 2

WEEK 2 is a career week for all early career researchers interested in developing their skill set and finding new career opportunities. We offer a wide range of courses to give you tools, techniques and resources that will elevate your career. Sign up for the courses that will give you inspiration and motivation and help you be prepared for our career fair at the end of the week. 

The programme is brought to you by the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, the Faculty of Dentistry, the Natural History Museum, and the Science Library.

WEEK 2 - Career fair

Take part in the illuminating Career Fair Day on Thursday, January 11th, concluding WEEK 2. Companies are invited to participate, interact, and showcase potential career pathways.

The career fair is reserved to PhD candidates, postdoctoral fellows and researchers at MN, OD and NHM.

  • WEEK 2 will take place 8th - 11th January 2024.
  • The venue is Ole-Johan Dahls hus, UiO. Adresse: Gaustadalléen 23B.
  • All courses and the career fair are free to attend.
  • You sign up for each course you want to attend individually. Check the programme below.

Monday 8th January

09:30 - 12:00

Start the day with a coffee at 09:30 and kick off WEEK 2 with Rector Svein Stølen, MN Dean Solveig Kristensen and OD Dean Tiril Willumsen at 10:00 in Simula auditorium, Ole Johan Dahls hus.

After the grand opening we invite the presentation and rhetoric’s specialists Shane Colvin and Kristian Bjørkdahl to guide you through the steps to making your presentations more impactful and memorable.

Unlocking research communication: tips and techniques

13:00 - 14:00

In the modern age, where information flows rapidly and knowledge dissemination is facilitated by various platforms, being able to communicate research is not just an option but a necessity.

Writing a popular science article

13:00 - 15:30

Learn useful tools for popular science writing and prepare an outline for your own article.

 

Bridging the gap between science and stakeholders

13:00 - 14:30

Explore how to make your research available to stakeholders, e.g. policymakers, industry or organisations.

Make your research more visible! (Cancelled)

14:15 - 15:45

Learn about different tools, platforms and services to share your research and other contributions, and how to utilise them to make yourself and your work more visible.

How to approach your future employer

15:00 - 15:30

This session will focus on how you can present yourself and your competencies to the employers you will meet at the career fair. You will gain insight to how employers think, and why they attend at UiO. You will also get some tips on how to use LinkedIn as a tool and what you can do to get the most of the day.

Tuesday 9th January
