Assessment of Master Projects

During the academic year 2012/2013, new guidelines for grading master projects in mathematics, natural sciences and technology came into effect. The new system applies to students who submit their master's thesis from 1 April 2014.

Why redefine the grading scale?

New grade descriptions for master theses aim to ensure that the grading scale is applied better than what has been the case since the letter grading scale was introduced in 2003. This will cause the grading scale to become more clearly linked to the National Qualifications Framework (Norwegian text only).

The new grade descriptions cause no changes to the requirements of the master thesis. There are set criteria that all theses are assessed by.

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences will provide information about the new grade descriptions to employers and other educational institutions. They will also be included in the diploma and diploma supplement. The redefinition of the grading scale will be implemented by all educational institutions in Norway that offer master's degrees in the fields of mathematics, science and technology.
