HDL in Physical Exercise and Health - New Twists

Guest lecture by resarcher Maarit Lehti, PhD, LIKES Research Centre for Physical Activity and Health, Jyväskylä, Finland.

High concentration of HDL-cholesterol in blood predicts longer and healthier life in epidemiological studies.

However, clinical trials increasing HDL-cholesterol in circulation haven't brought expected health benefits.

Current focus of research around HDL have moved from quantity to quality and functionality.

Seminar introduces HDL; what it is, what are the known functions of it, and how does it benefit health.

Dr. Lehti will also present her own study results of HDLs impact on energy metabolism and cellular respiration of skeletal muscle.
