About the project
This collaborative research project aims at establishing the contribution of drug exposure in mother-father-child triads on later cardio-metabolic dysfunctions in children and youth.
The DRUG-TRIAD project aligns with multiple UN Development Goals, by:
- promoting health and well-being for all at all ages;
- enhancing gender equality, by focusing on drug research in pregnant women;
- preventing the onset of cardio-metabolic disease in future generations, whose risk is attributable to early-life drug exposure, and indirectly favor decrease of pharmaceutical residues in freshwater.
In this project, we capitalize on two large national population-based cohorts in Norway and national health registries in Denmark, all linked to genetic data in mother-father-child trios. The project will contribute to generating new and conclusive knowledge about the causal contribution of early-life exposure to selected medications on the development of cardio-metabolic dysfunction in youth, according to timing of exposure, cumulative dose, and joint drug effects in mother-father-child triads.
