Academic Interests

My main interests have been in instrumentation in the area of Thoracic surgery and Wireless communication and interference with medical devices. Despite development of new minimally invasive cardiological procedures, the use of heart-lung machines is still vital for a number of advanced surgical interventions. In order to keep control with the most important physiological parameters without harming the patient, new technologies need to be developed in close cooperation with the medical expertise. My particular interest is within this interdisciplinary field, where extended knowledge of different special fields must be combined to achieve the best solution for the patient.

Higher education and employment history

I was graduated in 1993 as an electronic engineer (technical cybernetics) from Oslo University College in Norway, and received a Master degree in Electronics in 1997 from the University of Oslo - Department of Physics. My master thesis was entitled “A Computer Based Monitoring System Specialized for Intensive Care Patients”; a subject that I continued to work on in 1997-1998, at the Institute for Surgical Research at Rikshospitalet, the national hospital of Norway.  In 1998, I was granted a three-year scholarship from the Norwegian Research Council whereby working as a Development Engineer in the Department of Biomedical and Clinical Engineering at Rikshospitalet. Since 2001, I became the Head of Research & Development in the aforementioned department. In 2008, I received my Ph.D. from the University of Oslo - Department of Physics.  The doctoral dissertation was entitled “Technology Applications for Medical Devices Related to Surgical Operations”.  In 2009, I was appointed as an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Oslo
