Neutrino mass, left-right symmetry and inverted seesaws

Halvor Melkild, FI

Weekly Theory Seminar.

Abstract

In this talk I will present the how neutrino mass can be generated in the Standard Model and theories beyond. The starting point will be the Higgs mechanism and the textbook example of the Seesaw mechanism and I will discuss some of its issues concerning predictivity in the case of more than one generation of flavours.

Further, I will present the generation of neutrino mass in the Left-Right symmetric extension of the Standard Model. In this model it is possible to recover the predictive relation between the interactions and the mass matrices in the theory.

(Unless this is a blackboard talk, the slides will be available here)
