The GAMBIT Collaboration, where the Section for Theoretical Physics at the University of Oslo is heavily involved, maintains a C++ code called ColliderBit (https://arxiv.org/pdf/1705.07919) that allows theoretical physicist to check new models against existing searches for new physics at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). This project will extend the current available searches in ColliderBit to new searches that have not yet been implemented.
As a master's project this will involve understanding and interpreting a new physics search from one of the LHC experiments (usually ATLAS or CMS), implementing the search in C++ code within the ColliderBit framework, and testing the solution by simulating the relevant production of new physics particles.
The project requires both good basic C++ programming skills, knowledge of quantum field theory and the calculation/simulation of new physics production processes.
