FieldEx – an international field work exchange program for MSc/PhD students: Overview and recent student experiences.

Abstract: FieldEx is an exchange program between Norway, Canada, USA, and Japan for geoscience MSc and PhD students with focus on promoting field skills, field measurements and safety training in cold region environments. Students have the opportunity to participate in (a) annual specialized field courses in Norway, Canada and Japan developed by FieldEx, (b) existing field courses at partner institutions, and (c) field campaigns abroad run by our international partners. I will give an overview of the project and its opportunities for students from UiO and other partner universities.

In addition, this year’s FieldEx student participants (including Vårin Følling Sørensen Chiara de Geeter, Eli Holm Høgemo, Takuro Imazu and Ragnhild Sickel) will report on their FieldEx experiences in Finse, Svalbard and Alaska.
