FieldEx - A fieldwork-focused short-term exchange program with Canada, USA and Japan for geoscience MSc/PhD students: Overview and student experience reports

FieldEX is a short-term exchange program between Norway, Canada, USA, and Japan for geoscience MSc and PhD students. The focus is on field techniques in cold region environment, in particular, field measurements related to climate change, the cryosphere, hydrology, and natural hazards. FieldEx provides funding for placements of one to four weeks, enabling students to:

  • (a) participate in existing field-based courses at partner institutions;
  • (b) join fieldwork campaigns by project partners; and
  • (c) take part in annual 1-week workshops/excursions developed by FieldEx, open to students from all partner universities.

We will introduce the program and its opportunities, and previous student participants will share their experiences from FieldEx activities in Norway, Alaska, Iceland, and Switzerland.
