GeoHyd Lunch Seminar: Climate change and ski tourism: A status report and examples of services to better anticipate and adapt to current and upcoming challenges

Welcome to our GeoHyd Lunch Seminar on Monday 23rd of February @ 12:15 in Aud. 1 in the Geology Building. The seminar is held by Samuel Morin (Météo-France and CNRS, France).

Seminar by: Dr. Samuel Morin, Visiting Scientist (Dept of Geosciences), from Météo-France and CNRS, France:

Climate change and ski tourism: A status report and examples of services to better anticipate and adapt to current and upcoming challenges

Abstract: Climate change already influences the snow conditions in ski resorts around the world, with increased snow scarcity in the future as the climate keeps warming due to greenhouse gas emissions. This presentation will provide a brief overview about this situation, based on recent international studies and IPCC reports, and will introduce tools developed in order to provide information for better managing for the impacts of climate change, through longer-term adaptation of the ski tourism sector to climate change (e.g., the climate service ClimSnow implemented in over 180 ski resorts in France). Recent studies addressing water-related challenges upstream and downstream ski resorts will be introduced and discussed.
