Measuring glacier dynamics by optical and SAR satellite image time series
Abstract: The "Computer Science and Information Processing Laboratory" (LISTIC) of University Savoie Mont-Blanc (Annecy, France) has been working for more than 20 years on data fusion and information extraction from remote sensing images. This presentation will focus on the measurement of surface displacement fields from optical (Landsat, SPOT) and RaDAR (ERS, TerraSAR-X/PAZ and Sentinel-1) images over Alpine glaciers. After introducing the main techniques (offset tracking, InSAR...) to compute 1D or 2D displacement fields, we will present different strategies to combine them to derive 3D displacement fields and to reduce uncertainty of annual or intra-annual measures. Results are illustrated on High Mountain Asia glacier velocities and on the Mont-Banc massif in the Alps.
