GEOHYD Lunch Seminar: Permafrost-related rockfalls from high-Alpine rockwalls

Welcome to our GEOHYD Lunch Seminar Friday 5th of November @ 12:15 in Aud. 2, Geology building or via videolink using Zoom. The seminar is helt by Ludovic Ravanel, EDYTEM lab, France.

Seminar by Ludovic Ravanel (CNRS Researcher at the EDYTEM lab, France; currently at UiO 2021-22):

Permafrost-related rockfalls from high-Alpine rockwalls

Abstract: Over the last three decades, rockfalls from high Alpine rockwalls were more and more numerous and voluminous, posing safety problems for practitioners, infrastructure and valleys. Hot summers are for example very favourable periods for collapses, while certain events can mobilise several million m3 of rock, such as the Piz Cengalo case (Grisons, Switzerland) in August 2017 (3.1 M m3). During the past 15 years, research has intensified in the Alps, especially by verifying the link between climate and rockfalls and by showing that permafrost degradation was a major triggering factor. Current research aims at investigating the hydro-thermo-mechanical processes responsible for destabilisation.

It is possible to attend physically or to participate digitally at the seminar

Videolink to the lecture will be sent to the mailinglists alle@geo and geohyd-info@geo. If you want to subscribe to the geohyd-info@geo list send an email to Anita
