Abstract:
The polar regions are warming faster than anywhere else on the planet, yet the roles of aerosols and clouds in this rapid change remain poorly constrained. Ice-nucleating particles (INPs) - tiny aerosols that trigger ice formation in clouds - are key but still enigmatic players in the polar energy budget. In this talk, I will share new insights into the emerging sources of Arctic INPs and the potential balance between marine and terrestrial influences. I will also highlight our latest INP research across the Southern Ocean and Antarctica, offering a cross-polar perspective on how these particles shape clouds at the ends of the Earth.
