I am a post-doc with the Geo-didactics or Geosciences Education(al) Research section, established in early 2022. Coming from a background in pedagogical development for physics, and working within iEarth, my work is closely tied to educational practice. My current research is related to the development of Students as Partners practices in the department, specifically through Course Representatives, and I am also interested in the teaching and learning of physics concepts within a geosciences context: saying that 'students don't understand the physics' (or maths or chemistry etc.), isn't very helpful for anyone.

In addition to my research work, I run the monthly Geo-didactics journal club that provides a dedicated space to discuss a paper related to educational issues. All are welcome.

Academic interests

  • Teaching and learning related to Physics (and other disciplines) in geosciences contexts;
  • Research-based and research-informed educational practices;
  • Student contributions to their education and alignment of education to students;
  • Educational developments informed by multiple (staff and student) perspectives;
  • Supporting pedagogical development work and initiatives across iEarth.

Background:

  • 2019–2020: Pedagogical developer (physics teaching laboratories), Stockholm University, Sweden.
  • 2017–2019: Post-doctoral researcher, Nordita, Stockholm, Sweden.
  • 2016:  PhD Physics, University College London, UK.
  • 2012:  MPhys Theoretical Physics, Lancaster University, UK.
