Academic interests
My research spans the full breadth of paleomagnetism, including magnetostratigraphy, paleointensity and plate tectonic reconstructions, to solve fundamental questions in Earth history. I am fascinated by possibly anomalous geomagnetic field behaviour in deep time (particularly the Devonian), and whether Earth’s magnetic field may have played a role in biotic crises.
My work also covers igneous geochemistry in the Arabia-Eurasia collision zone, global paleoclimatic changes (Eocene-Oligocene and Devonian) and their links to basin anoxia. Recently, I have become interested in pioneering the use of fossil micrometeorites as novel paleomagnetic archives. I think that fieldwork and science communication are essential components of Earth science and I am committed to building collegial, collaborative and inclusive research environments.
