On September 12th, 2025, Professor Regine Hock hosted a seminar in Auditorium 2 of the Geology Building at the University of Oslo. The seminar showcased the various opportunities for student exchanges within the ongoing FieldEX – Field Instrumentation and Measurements in Cold Region Environments program. One of the seminar's main purposes was to provide a platform for students to share their experiences from participating in FieldEX activities.
Five Geoscience students shared their unique experiences and captivating photos from diverse fieldwork in cold-region environments, highlighting the transformative impact of hands-on learning.
The students—Vårin Følling Sørensen, Eli Holm Høgemo, Ragnhild Sickel, Chiara de Geeter, all from the Department of Geosciences at the University of Oslo, and Takuro Imazu from Hokkaido University, Japan—conducted engaging presentations about their FieldEX activities in Finse, Alaska, and Svalbard. The final two presentations were conducted via Zoom.
All of the students were very satisfied with the exchange experience in FieldEX.
About the FieldEX exchange programme
The Field Instrumentation and Measurements in Cold Region Environments (FieldEX) program is an exchange initiative involving Norway, Canada, the USA, and Japan, designed for geoscience MSc and PhD students. The program focuses on promoting field skills, field measurements, and safety training in cold region environments.
Students in the partner institutions in FieldEX have the opportunity to participate in:
- Annual specialized field courses in Norway, Canada, and Japan developed by FieldEX.
- Existing field courses at partner institutions.
- Field campaigns abroad conducted by our international partners.
