TOPO-NORWAY (UiO-part) (completed)

TOPO-NORWAY project aims at analyzing the erosion and drainage patterns onshore southern and mid southwest Norway to identify glacial and pre-glacial erosional surfaces and to estimate the corresponding eroded rock volumes, and further correlate towards time eaquivalent accumulations in the northeastern North Sea.

The project is a part of the proposal “Tectonics and morphology” and addresses particularly Mesozoic and later uplift, erosion and systems of sediment transport in the areas of a) Sirdalen – Gjesdalen – Lysefjorden and b) Lærdal – Fillefjell.

The studies are tightly coordinated with the system of corresponding offshore sediment deposition system (“Offshore-onshore links”), correlation to contemporary tectonic processes (“Neotectonics and impact on hazards”) and the lithostatic/isostatic effects of such processes as well as modeling of deeper (lithospheric and asthenospheric) dynamics (“Deep processes; observations and modeling”).
