VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) is technology which gives the users access to a virtual computer with the software and processing power they need. This computer can be used in the same way you use your local computer, but can be reached from different devices and operating systems.

A virtual machine has been created specifically to facilitate the use of G&G software by employees and students within the Geoscience Department at UIO. Operating on the Windows 10 system, this virtual machine is equipped with essential geoscience software, including Petrel, as well as applications that require higher graphics card resources not typically available on personal computers.

- How to get access
To obtain access, individuals, whether employees or students, should submit a request to the IT-help at the Geoscience Department. This can be done either by reaching out via email drift@geo.uio.no or by visiting our office in person.
The virtual machine can be accessed through VMware Horizon software or via the View portal. Upon launching the virtual machine, users will have instant access to all installed software.
Should additional software be required, users are encouraged to contact us to discuss the possibility of installation.
