Open topics within drone data acquisition and processing (multiple thesis)

The DroneLab@UiO operates several different drones with a large variety of payload systems (camera, thermal, multispectral, LiDAR), and complementary ground surveying equipment, all of which can be starting points for the definition of Master's projects, guided by the prospective student's interests.

Potential projects offered in the lab could either have a technical focus on data acquisition and processing methods within the drone lab, or an interdisciplinary and scientific focus on using drones to collect data to benefit geo-scientific research questions. Both pathways for a master's topic can be discussed.

For example, a project could apply the following themes:

  • investigate different data acquisition methods, assessing feasibility, accuracy and precision
  • evaluate the validity of various drones and payloads for a specific scientific focus;
  • develop processing methods for the analysis and application of drone data to one or more research fields
  • compare the performance of different software, open-source or commercial, or method selection for the processing of drone data
Some of the drones in use at the drone lab as of 2024.
