Daniel is a postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Informatics, University of Oslo, and a member of the Digital Innovation Research Group. He does research within the fields of organizational science and information systems.
He holds a master's degree in Political Science and Management from the University of Agder (awarded in 2018), and a PhD in Management and Information Systems from the University of Oslo (awarded in 2025). During his PhD research he studied the emergence process of digital platform ecosystems. Empirically, such a study consisted of an investigation of the initial development of an industrial data-based business-to-business platform ecosystem, more specifically, how a Norwegian software-as-a-service firm created a new platform ecosystem within heavy-asset industries (i.e., oil and gas, power & utilities and manufacturing). Theoretically, such a study consisted of a conceptual investigation of how platform ecosystem emergence, in particular, and interorganizational collaboration arrangement emergence, in general, has been conceptualized by scholars. Combined, the outcome of his PhD research was a new theoretical argument of how a complex interorganizational collaboration arrangement, like platform ecosystems, emerge.
As part of his postdoctoral research, he is engaged in a larger empirical investigation of how different digital infrastructures within maritim transport contribute to industrial sustainability transitions by enabling for the reporting of greenhouse gas emissions. He also conceptually investigates organizational ecosystems further, both platform ecosystem emergence and what an organisational ecosystem really is as a an empirical phenomenon and scientific concept.
Daniel is especially interested in the intersection between science and philosophy, in particular, how philosophical assumptions condition the practice of science, and how specific philosophical concepts can be used as resources for developing new scientific theories and empirical insights. As part of his PhD research, philosophical concepts from process metaphysics, specifically, from the process ontology of Gilles Deleuze was used and is further used in his postdoctoral research.
Daniel's paper, co-authored with Dragana Paparova, entitled Data Hierarchies: The Emergence of an Industrial Data Ecosystem. Proceedings of the Forty-Fourth International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS 2023.) received the "Best Student Paper Award 1st Runner Up" in 2023.
