PhD project

My PhD project examines how AI platforms are scaled within and across digital health infrastructures in low- and middle-income countries. Adopting a sociotechnical perspective, the project employs a qualitative and interpretive approach to explore how organisations, institutions, and communities negotiate the introduction of AI-driven analytics into existing health information systems. Empirically, the research is grounded in multi-country fieldwork across ten LMIC pilot sites, investigating the implementation of CHAP, a climate-health AI platform for climate sensitive diseases, integrated with DHIS2. The project contributes to existing literature by bringing a digital infrastructure perspective to AI implementation, and by introducing temporal and ecological theoretical frameworks to the study of AI platform scaling in global health contexts.

Background

I hold a BSc in Consumer Studies from Wageningen University & Research and an MSc in Management, Economics and Consumer Studies with a specialisation in Information Technology from WUR. My master's thesis, “A systematic review and approach regarding the development of speech therapy systems for childhood speech disorders”, systematically explored existing automated speech therapy programs discussed in prior literature and provided a reference architecture and application architecture for online speech therapy systems.

After my master's studies, I worked as a senior analyst for the technology & communication group and the artificial intelligence group of a global organisational consulting and leadership advisory firm to many of the world's leading businesses.
