Guest Lecture: Geoff Walsham on ICT4D Research: Reflections on History and Future Agenda

Research on the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) for international development, or ICT4D research, has a history going back some thirty years. This talk will take stock of the ICT4D research field at this important juncture in time, when ICTs are increasingly pervasive and when many different disciplines are involved in researching the area. The talk will provide some reflections on the history of the field and a discussion of future agenda including topic selection, the role of theory and methodological issues. A set of challenges will be identified for all ICT4D researchers to address.

Geoff Walsham is an Emeritus Professor of Management Studies at Judge Business School, Cambridge University. His teaching and research is concerned with the question: are we making a better world with ICTs?  He has extensive experience as an academic, consultant and practitioner in a range of countries in Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas. He was one of the early pioneers of interpretivism in the information systems field.
