Low-resource languages risk losing their unique cultural characteristics in large vision-language models, as they are often overshadowed by the dominance of high-resource language datasets (Source: AURoRA proposal).

The funded project, entitled AURoRA: Advancing Universal Resource-Scarce Large Vision-Language Models Towards Robust and Reliable AI, is part of a newly launched strategic initiative between the Research Council of Norway (RCN) and the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF). This bilateral funding scheme marks the first such call, supporting two strategic domains: AI and hydrogen technologies.

AURoRA is a three-year collaboration jointly led by the University of Oslo (UiO) and Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU). The project aims to advance the development of robust and reliable large vision-language models (LVMs) for resource-scarce environments, with particular emphasis on promoting scientific excellence in AI and strengthening international research collaboration between Norway and South Korea.
