Welcome to the group, Dhananjay

We welcome our new PhD research fellow Dhananjay Tomar!

I did my Bachelor's in Computer Science from JIIT, India. My Bachelor's final year project was on Feature Selection using Neural Nets.

I then moved to Lugano, Switzerland, to pursue a Master's degree in Informatics at the University of Lugano. The reason to move there was Jürgen Schmidhuber's group at IDSIA. I did my Master's thesis in his group in which I worked on developing methods for finding curricula for datasets (you can google "curriculum learning") but wasn't successful. To the best of my knowledge, that problem remains unsolved.

After that, I moved to Heidelberg, Germany, to work for SAP at their headquarters in Walldorf as a Machine Learning developer. I was part of the team working on automating the extraction of entities from financial documents. The pipeline we developed processes millions of documents per month, making humans' jobs easier. After that gig in the industry, I'm finally back in academia and research to work on semi-supervised learning for medical imaging.

In my free time, I enjoy running (usually 10Ks at a fairly good speed), resistance training (weight lifting), getting into some random topics in Science, among other things.
