About the project
STEP-HOC is a research collaboration project between Distributed Multimedia Systems (DMMS) at University of Oslo, and the Multimedia Communications Lab (KOM) at Technische Universität Darmstadt. Both research groups have experienced the need for development of test and evaluation environments in their research projects and have developed project specific solutions before. However, neither these solutions nor other related work provides sufficient realistic environments to capture and reproduce the real life problems of today's and future MANETs. Both groups intend to combine their respective expertise in dependable routing, middleware services, and applications for MANETs to develop a more general architecture for MANET emulation and testbeds, which also addresses cross layer interactions, dependability/reliability, quality of service, and performance. A first prototype is planned to be implemented and follow-up project proposals will be written.
