Digitalization from an infrastructure perspective

Digitalization in the healthcare sector (and the public sector in general) is predominantly done through projects, which are temporary organizations that are created to reach some goals and then carry out a bounded set of changes towards these goals. The subject of this master project is to study such projects from an infrastructure perspective.

To reach their goals, digitalization projects typically need to work with and perform changes in the digital infrastructures of the healthcare sector, meaning existing networks of digital systems and organizational arrangements. Taking an infrastructure perspective on projects entails studying how short-lived projects work with long-lived infrastructures. It could also mean studying alternative ways of organizing digitalization (for example, product teams (link in Norwegian)).

This projects fits for one or two master students in the digitalization of healthcare program, who is interested in theory and wants to study an empirical case in the light of an infrastructure perspective. It is expected that the student will find and gain access to a case themselves, with support from the supervisor. This could be any digitalization (development, pilot, implementation) project within healthcare sector. The student will in addition to normal supervision get an introduction to the infrastructure perspective and support in studying the main papers of this theory.
