Requirements for Synthetic Health Data from Different Stakeholders

Synthetic health data, which are artificially generated datasets that mimic the statistical properties of real health data, are increasingly being explored as a way to enable innovation while protecting patient privacy.

However, different stakeholders may have different needs and expectations when it comes to how such data are generated and used. For example, researchers may prioritize realism and statistical validity, while digital innovators may emphasize accessibility, interoperability, or scalability for prototyping new solutions. Understanding these differences is essential for ensuring that synthetic data initiatives are both useful and trusted.

This project invites students to investigate the requirements and expectations that various stakeholders place on synthetic health data. Possible directions include mapping and analyzing the needs of researchers, policymakers, and digital innovators; studying how these requirements influence the design and adoption of synthetic datasets; or developing insights relevant for generating and applying synthetic health data.

The project is suitable for 1-2 students from DIGHEL.
