Robot for autonomous sensor node deployment and retrieval

Many scenarios like disaster response and environmental monitoring rely on sensor nodes placed and collected manually, posing safety risks and limiting responsiveness. This project proposes using autonomous robots to handle this task, reducing human risk and allowing for fast adjustments to sensor positions as situations change.

Potential applications include rapid risk assessment in disaster zones, such as avalanche and landslide monitoring, as well as environmental data collection. There are many parts of this project that would be suited for a master topic. Students will have opportunities to study planning and optimization of sensor placement, building the physical robot system, forest navigation, and robots operating in challenging conditions, depending on what they're interested in. The project can be more theoretical or use our robots to make a physical prototype that's then tested in the real world.
